• Fang Ngil Mask, Gabon #309
• This mask is shaped like a helmet and whitened with kaolin. The face shows a heart shape, with merging eyebrows forming a straight nose bridge, enlarged above a particularly shaped mouth with teeth.
• Fang Ngil masks had a legal function, indicated by the severity of the prominent eyebrows and by the narrow incised eyes.
• They were carried by local authorities (notables), who were in charge of those responsible for crimes.
